FAQs
What do I get with my kitten?
When you adopt a kitten from our British Shorthair Kitten Home, you’ll receive a comprehensive kitten care package that includes two adorable outfits, a selection of toys, and delicious treats. Additionally, we will provide you with a three-generation pedigree lineage for your kitten. If you decide to register your kitten with TICA, we will provide you with all the necessary information to complete the registration process. We also offer a three-year guarantee against congenital defects and HCM, as well as lifetime support. We love receiving updates on our cats and encourage you to share photos and videos with us. If you have any questions or concerns, we are always available to assist you.
Do you offer stud services or sell cats for breeding purposes?
No, we do not offer stud services or sell cats for breeding purposes. Our cattery operates as a closed facility to ensure the well-being and health of our kittens.
What medical testing do I need to do on my British Shorthair?
Immunizations play a vital role in maintaining your kitten’s health. It is important to consult with a veterinarian who is familiar with the specific needs of British Shorthair cats, as they may have specific sensitivities to certain vaccines.
We recommend a series of four FVRCP vaccinations and one rabies vaccination during the first year of your kitten’s life. Subsequently, annual FVRCP and rabies vaccinations should be administered throughout their life.
However, we advise against vaccinating your kitten for FIP, ringworm, or Giardia, and we do not provide any warranty for adverse reactions to these or any other future vaccinations.
It is also required that all existing cats in your household undergo combo testing for FIV/Leukemia before introducing your new British Shorthair kitten. We strongly recommend an annual echocardiogram to detect any signs of HCM in your cat.
While we conduct annual scans on our breeding cats and practice selective breeding, it is important to note that HCM can be inherent in the British Shorthair breed.
Do you have an outcrossing program?
Yes, we have a customized outcrossing program designed to introduce genetic diversity into the British Shorthair gene pool. Our program strictly adheres to TICA-approved breeds for outcrossing.
What do I do if my cat gets sick?
We provide a health guarantee for 48 hours after the kitten’s pick-up, and a three-year guarantee against life-threatening congenital defects, including HCM. If your cat falls ill, please contact us immediately. However, after the initial 48-hour health check, you assume responsibility for any illnesses that may arise in your cat. The breeder cannot be held liable for future diagnoses of FeLV/FIV or any other bacterial, viral, infectious diseases, or parasites that your cat may contract outside of our cattery.
How do I know you’re a reputable breeder?
When purchasing a kitten, it is crucial to conduct thorough research and be cautious of potential scammers. We are a registered cattery with TICA, and our website is linked to our TICA registration. We advise against acquiring a kitten from an unregistered cattery that does not conduct annual HCM scans on their cats and is unwilling to conduct a FaceTime call. Scammers can be sophisticated and employ various deceptive tactics, so exercise caution if the price seems unusually low or if the cattery requests payment via Western Union. Kittens should be produced within a dedicated cattery that conducts genetic testing, annual HCM scans, HCM gene testing, and holds TICA registration.
